15 people have been confirmed dead in a road crash between two vehicles at Gomoa Mpromem, near Apam in the Central Region.
The crash, which happened on Sunday afternoon, also left 11 others injured, who are currently on admission.
The Apam District Police Commander, ASP Cephas Edzeani narrated to Citi News circumstances surrounding the accident which begun with a Ford bus trying to overtake an articulated truck.
“It involved an articulated trailer with two occupants and a Mercedes Sprinter. The information available is that the truck was from Accra going to Takoradi. On reaching that spot on the Mankessim-Winneba highway, a Ford bus suddenly tried to overtake the articulated truck.”
“In the process, the Sprinter bus was also coming at high speed so the Ford swerved in front of the truck and the truck driver tried to avoid hitting the rear of the Ford bus and therefore swerved into the other lane and the Sprinter bus crashed into the articulated truck.”
“On the spot, 13 people died. Later, two died at the hospital at Winneba. 11 people are currently on admission; 9 at Winneba and two at Apam. They are responding to treatment,” ASP Edzeani added.
