GoldStar Air, a wholly owned Ghanaian airline, has been granted Air Carrier Licence and is expected to start operations in the country by June next year.
The licence, issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Company, is the first of a five stage process that will see GoldStar acquire an air operator certificate before a full take off.
GoldStar plans to operate regional and international flights to the West Coast -Abidjan, Monrovia, Freetown, Dakar, Guinea Conakry and a long haul flights to London, Dubai and Guangzhou among others.
Mr Martey Boye Atoklo, Deputy Director-General in charge of Technical, who revealed this said the process could take longer depending on how quick they stick to the procedures required.
Chief Executive of the company, Mr Eric Bannerman, said other key processes outstanding are the formal application, documentation on manuals on training of air crew; demonstration of the operations with the inspectors as well as the completion and provision of air operators certificate.
He said the advent of GoldStar would create 5,000 jobs in and outside of the country, noting the investments in the company is expected to bring hope to the industry.
