The Board of Directors of the Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) has rendered a “sincere” apology to President Akufo-Addo for criticizing him over a ‘fake’ appointment.
The president came under intense fire after the media reported that he has appointed Mr. Kwame Osei Prempeh as the new Chief Executive Officer of GOIL.
The critics including the board of the oil retail company argued that the president who is a legal luminary did not follow due process in the appointment.
But a statement from the presidency on Tuesday berated the board for issuing an “unfortunate and completely needless” state based on media report. Read reaction from president’s office
Mr. Eugene Arhin who signed the statement was emphatic that the president has never made any such appointment to GOIL, which is listed on the stock exchange.
The board accepted its mistake and subsequently rendered an apology to President Akufo-Addo.
“To this end, we the members of the Board of Directors of GOIL, do hereby, render our sincere apologies to Your Excellency for any embarrassment caused by the Board’s Statement in response to the Ghana Web publication of 24th February 2017,” the Board Chairman Prof. William A. Asomaning said in the apology letter dated 28th February 2017.
