The Electoral Commission (EC) has directed security personnel and other persons who could not find their names on the special voters list to visit the District offices of the EC for the discrepancies to be corrected.
Some security personnel have complained of missing names, among others in the special voters’ register.
But Head of Communication at the EC responding to the concerns said the commission compiled special voters list based on the information they received from the various institutions.
He indicated that that the names may have been switched.
“When we compiled the first list, we found out that people’s names were not in the list or were in different places but we were able to do it. He said the data input could be the problem,” he stated.
He said the commission will investigate the matter to know the way forward.
“We will have to investigate why this happened but for now the parties have to follow the law and visit the EC office,” Dzakpasu said.
Special voting is a special dispensation under the electoral laws that allow registered voters who will not be able to present themselves at their polling stations on voting day as a result of the roles they will play in the elections to vote on a date before the rest of the electorate vote on the date set for the elections.
The category of people who are allowed to do special voting are security personnel, officials of the EC and journalists.
