The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has been given a stern warning by the Speaker of Parliament to “go and sin no more” following his unsubstantiated corruption allegation against parliament.
Giving his final judgment on the allegation the speaker Prof. Mike Ocquaye indicated that because Mr. Ayariga could not substantiate his claim, he is warned to desist from ever embarking on any such act that would dent the image of the House.
“Hon. Ayariga, if this is to be repeated in the future after today’s ruling, you’ll have yourself to blame” the speaker said.
This was after he Mr. Ayariga was asked to read out to the hearing of the whole house, an apology he had written to the speaker, which he did.
The 5 member Joe Ghartey committee which was set up to investigate the bribery allegation said Mr. Ayariga was in contempt of parliament for denting the image of parliament without prove.
The committee recommended the he render an unqualified apology to the house which he [Mr. Ayariga] did but said “Mr. Speaker if you want me to apologise, I apologise…”
Many described the apology as ‘weak and without remorse’. Moments after the apology, the house degenerated into confusion, raising tempers with invectives thrown left, right center.
