Second runner-up of the Legacy Edition of Ghana’s Most Beautiful Season X Akos found herself at Ghana’s main prison facility Nsawam prisons but not for the wrong reasons.
Akos, who has been championing a peace campaign dubbed ‘Akos for Peace’, visited and interacted with inmates and donated some items to them on Friday, November 25.
GMB’s Eastern Region representative, who recently released a peace song titled Owiao as part of her message for a peaceful election, was of the view that prisoners are neglected in peace campaigns irrespective of the fact that some of them may have been victims of electoral violence.
“I have taken this initiative because peace is very important for our beloved country as we go into a crucial election which is very dear to all Ghanaians.
“It’s my wish that we all go to the polls on December 7 with a clean mind and heart and choose who we want as President of our one and only Ghana.”
She, however, expressed delight at the warm reception she received from both inmates and prison officials who were all excited to see her at the facility.
“I was overwhelmed by the reception I received from everyone here and I must admit I almost shed tears seeing some of these fine gentlemen behind bars.
“One of the interesting stories I heard upon my arrival which indeed touched my heart was how the inmates stayed glued to their television sets on Sundays to watch my weekly performances on GMB.”
According to her, the spokesperson for the prisoners recalled the moment some of the inmates shed tears during one of her live stage performances during the GMB competition when she preached a message from John 10:10, a verse from which she derived the title of her new single.
“It was an emotional moment to see tears in the eyes of some inmates who after watching my performance admitted they had been misled by the devil in most of the bad deeds they engaged in, which brought them to prison and promised not to engage in any of those acts one they are out of there.
Akos was accompanied by three key stakeholders in her peace campaign – Baba Spirit, Kwapia and Apizo.
The leadership of the Prisons Service expressed profound gratitude and petitioned Akos to encourage other celebrities to emulate her actions in the future.
The event was supported by GTP Safoa, HPW Fresh and Dry Fruits, Blue Skies, Ena Pa Mackerel, Heaven Insecticide spray, Water Chill, Trendys Bridal Decor, Brows & Blends make up, Quick Brain Multimedia and Tap Publishings SPN Productions.
