Nigeria telecom giants Globacom have started paying up monies owed the Ghana Football Association.
A statement from Ghana’s football governing body said it has taken receipt of $1.9 million from Globacom Ghana, representing part of the outstanding debt owed it in unpaid sponsorship fees for the Premier League.
In 2009, the two parties signed a five-year sponsorship deal withGLO Mobile Ghana as the title sponsor for the Ghana Premier League.
However in 2012-13, they refused to honour the payment of the sponsorship money and following several meetings in addition to legal measures, GLO have made part-payment of the sponsorship fees due the clubs that played in the 2012-13 Ghana Premier League.
The Ghana FA statement said Kotoko, who won that season’s title, will be given their prize money while the FA’s Executive Committee will disburse the money to the clubs in due course.
