GHANA Life Insurance (GLI) Company has donated blood and some food items worth hundreds of cedis to the 37 Military Hospital to mark 37 years of its existence.
The programme christened “Ghana Life Insurance @37, @ 37 Military Hospital” saw the management, staff and sales agents of the company marking the day at the Children’s Ward of the Hospital.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Ivan Avereyireh, said the donation was a demonstration of the company’s commitment to build key institutions in the country and more importantly around communities in which the company resides.
“We need to grow with the communities in which we operate. One of such communities is the 37 Military Hospital in particular and the Ghana Armed Forces in general,” he said.
He said they will not want to grow alone in the years ahead of them. “We grow with people.”
Mr Avereyireh explained they handpicked the Children’s Ward because the “children we see here today will form our clientele base tomorrow and the ultimate beneficiary will be Mother Ghana.”
Touching on the reason for donating blood to the hospital, he said because blood is essential to the survival of a human beings it is important they are given blood anytime they run short of it.
“People who run short of blood need blood replenishment to survive and for me, in saving a life by donating a pint of blood, you stand to prolong your own life.”
Commanding Officer of 37 Hospital, Colonel Michael Yeboah Agyepong, used the opportunity to thank the company for the gesture, saying it will go a long way to reduce the pressure on them since the hospital is Ghana’s foremost national disaster facility.
He charged other companies to follow the step taken by Ghana Life Insurance Company to reach out to national institutions that are facing challenges in their line of operations.
Management, staff and sales agents of the company took turns to donate blood to the facility which has blood deficit following the gas explosion at the Trade Fair in Accra in 2016.
