National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has challenged the Electoral Commission (EC), to release the nomination forms of the candidates that qualified to contest in the presidential election if they have nothing to hide.
Speaking with Rainbow Radio’s Kwabena Agyapong on Eboboba, a political show, the politician said, for fairness sake, the EC must accept the challenge and allow the disqualified candidates access the forms of especially the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and see if they have no errors on their forms.
The presidential candidate of the party, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama was on Monday disqualified from contesting the presidential election. According to the EC, the candidate did not have the requisite number of subscribers required under Regulation 7(2) (b) of CI 94 and his nomination cannot therefore be accepted.
But responding to the disqualification, Bernard Mornah said, the party was highly disappointed in the EC for disqualifying them. He said, as a responsible political party, they have accessed their forms and have written to the EC over the matter. He described the reasons assigned to their disqualification, as trivial and unfounded.
Bernard Mornah noted that, they will not shout like other parties are doing but will work to get his candidate back on the ballot paper. He said, the disqualification of our candidate is ”unmeritorious” and we will ensure that, the EC reinstate him. ”The EC gave us reasons for the disqualification but we do not agree to that.
The reasons are unmeritorious,” he noted. Mr. Mornah quizzed if the EC would have disqualified the NDC and NPP with courage and speed at which they did to the PNC and others. Citing the C1 94, the National Chairman added that, the EC failed to give them time to rectify the anomalies. ”The EC applied a selective approach in disqualifying our candidate.
Will the EC be bold enough to bring out the nomination forms of the NDC and NPP for us to go through and find out if there are no mistakes on them? If they will, they should give me just two minutes (2) and i will point out numerous mistakes on their forms. If they want to disqualify us on the basis of mistakes, they should allow me to point out the mistakes on the forms of the NDC and NPP.”
