The day aimed at promoting the profession in different regions of the World was on the theme “Home Economics Literacy for a Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle of a Ghanaian Family”.
According to her, Home Economies Literacy was one of the effective strategies that could assist in creating healthier and productive lifestyles.
She said it was to enable individuals and family members become responsible consumers of healthy foods.
Mrs Amoah said there were several activities that Home Economics performed on daily basis including the promotion of healthy dieting for families and individuals.
She said since Education was central in improving quality of life, there was the need for all especially the media to help in educating the public on the importance of Home Economics as one with potentials to achieving societal transformation.
Professor Mawutor Avoke Vice Chancellor of the University of Education (UEW) Winneba said in a speech delivered on his behalf that Home Economics in daily life supported good health.
“Home Economics literacy skills with its greater communication and technical skills would enable a greater dissemination of information that would promote the awareness of healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
“We in UEW seek to encourage and sustain an academic environment that both respects individual freedom and promote health, safety and welfare of all community members and it is our home that the use of Home Economics Literacy in sensitisation programmes and public education campaigns would be directed more on health related issues,” he added.
