Ghana’s Parliament House was leaking horribly on Tuesday as heavy rains visited the capital, Accra. Reports reaching Starr News indicate the heavy downpour which was heralded by a windstorm ripped off a part of the roof of the House.
Mopping and garbage receptacles were placed at sections of the Chamber, especially where the Clerks are stationed, due to a leaking roof.
The discomforting situation disrupted proceedings around 7pm. The House had to rise abruptly while discussing the Local Government Bill that will give the president the power to revoke the appointment of the 30% Assembly Members appointed by former President John Mahama.
The Parliament House was constructed in 1965 during the tenure of Ghana’s First President Kwame Nkrumah, and was renovated in 2012/13 at a reported cost of Gh¢94.2 million.
