Ghana in recent years, has been booming when it comes to the construction of modern shopping centres. Just in about a decade, the country can boast numerous one-stop shopping destinations that can actually serve buyers both from within and outside the country. Among some of these modern shopping complexes are the Marina Mall and the West Hills Mall, to mention just a few. Now comes the grandest of all – The Kumasi City Mall to be officially opened on the 20th of April, 2017.
The mutimillion dollar ultramodern shopping complex is located at the Asokwa industrial area on the lake road. It will emerge the first modern shopping complex in the town of Kumasi, as well as the biggest in Ghana. The Mall is a joint project between Delico Kumasi Limited, a subsidiary of Delico Property Developments -Mauritius and Atterbury Investment Ltd, South Africa. It is the third straight development by Delico, and the fourth for Atterbury, coming after the Accra Mall, West Hills Mall (2014) and the Achimota Retail Centre (2015), all in Accra.
Otumfuo and Lady Julia Visit Mall Ahead of Official Opening
It has been hinted that the Kumasi City Mall will be officially unveiled by the Leader of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who was the same person that cut the sod for the commencement of the project on June 6, 2014.
The Asantehene and his wife, Lady Julia visited the Kumasi City Mall ahead of its grand opening which as earlier mentioned will hold on April 20, 2017. The royal couple were conducted round the facility by managers to enable them acquaint themselves with the multi-million dollar shopping mall, the first of its kind in the Ashanti Region capital city.
The Kumasi City Mall is located on a 15.4-acre land, with a letable space of 18,500 square metres, and having up to 10,000 square metres potential for further expansion. According to Mr. Roux Gerber, the Development Manager of the project, one of the rare qualities of the KCM is that it has a massive parking lot which is the biggest basement parking in Ghana.
The KCM is enclosed at its extreme ends, which house the two main anchor tenants, retail giants Shoprite and Game. It also has a semi-enclosed midsection where a food court is located. Other special features are the inclusion of pharmaceuticals, gifts and high value jewelry, restaurants and eateries, as well as banking and financial Services. With all these features, the mall will provide the vibrant Ashanti regional capital with a modern location for business transactions, social interactions and entertainment, children’s games and recreation – all in one!
Moreover, the structure’s columns and ceilings are intricately designed to portray and present an artistic view of the trees and forest elements which characterize the greenery of the Ashanti Region. The facility will be managed by AttAfrica, who would be responsible for its day-to-day running and operations. It is also expected to provide thousands of employment opportunities for residents of Kumasi and its environs.
