In the run up to the 2016 general elections, President Akufo-Addo blew the minds of many Ghanaians with his witty statements and memorable quotes including his famous ‘I am a short man with a big heart for Ghanaians’ statement and the same was witnessed in his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In the 2017 SONA, one of the famous and most memorable quotes of the president, ‘I am indeed in a hurry, I am in a great hurry’ has come under a barrage of attacks from some members of the opposition.
Minority Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was least impressed about the statement as he cautioned the president not to hurry and crash.
According to him, Ghanaians voted the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government to deliver great results and not to be in a great hurry.
“On page two of H. E. President Nana Akufo-Addo’s address he stated “Mr Speaker, I am indeed in a hurry, I am in great hurry”. Mr Speaker with all due respect the people of this country voted for H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo for great result and not great hurry”
“In any case we all know that it is really about the direction and not just been in a hurry, though there’s a saying that if you rush you will crash,” he said.
The President expressed his desire to quickly get to work and fix the ‘broken’ economy, reduce the huge debt burden and halt the rapid decline of the cedi and massive unemployment left by the Mahama administration when he addressed the nation.
Okudzeto Ablakwa also alleged that nearly 23,000 people have been left unemployed because of the suspension of their appointment by the transition team.
He expressed these sentiments when he contributed to the Presidents SONA debate on the floor Parliament.
