The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, O. B. Amoah, says Ghana’s ailing economy will be fixed again under a New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the country’s economy has been so badly managed that, it will need a committed leader like Nana Akufo-Addo and his competent team to bring it back on the path of growth for job creation, like NPP did when it took over a terrible economy in 2001 . Mr. O. B. Amoah said these whilst addressing the Presbyterian Women’s College, Aburi branch, of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP.
Answering questions from the students as to whether the NPP can fulfill its 2016 election promises like ‘one district, one factory, ‘$1 million for each constituency every year,’ the Akuapem South MP reaffirmed the party’s commitment to deliver its promises because it had an enviable track record in government.
“NPP had promised in the year 2000 that it will bring National Health Insurance, it was done. NPP promised to bring the National Youth Employment Programme to provide jobs for the youth, it was done. NPP promised to introduce Metro Mass Transport to improve the transportation system in the country, it was done.
The NPP promised to introduce the School Feeding Programme, it was done. “The NPP promised to introduce Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to cushion the poor, it was done. The NDC condemned the LEAP programme when it was being implemented, but they have now taken it and are boasting with it,” O. B. Amoah pointed out.
He said apart from these social intervention programmes, the NPP administration also transformed the economy “by improving on our currency, the strength of our cedi, the banking system and the private sector making sure that the environment was good for businesses to flourish.”
Mr. O. B. Amoah said Ghanaians will have better lives devoid of the current hardships under the right leadership, a leadership that will not preside over mismanagement of the nation’s resources.
He pointed out that, the President John Kufuor-led NPP, transformed the economy from Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) in 2001, to lower middle income country in 2008, after the NDC had run down the economy.
The Akuapem South MP, who doubles as the Chairman of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee of Parliament, urged the electorate to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidates in the December 7, 2016 elections.
This, he explained, will enable the NPP win the elections with the majority in Parliament to implement its policy proposals, and fulfill its promises like the party did in government from 2001-2008.
