The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) transition team which is being headed by Yaw Osafo Marfo, Senior Minister-designate will hold a meeting with authorities at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) today.
The meeting will be one of many engagements the team will have with key state financial institutions.
Starr Business gathers top on the agenda will be the nominations of a substantive government statistician. Currently a deputy statistician, Baah Wadie is in an acting position after Dr. Philomena Nyarko retired.
Per the transition act all boards including that of the service will be dissolved.
The incoming finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, will inaugurate a new board when he takes office.
With the macro economy being a major focus for the new administration, it is believed that constituting a board for the Service will be foremost on the agenda.
The meeting is expected to brief the team on the work of the service so far. It will also talk about the inflation rate which currently stands at 15.4 percent.
Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) provisional growth in the third quarter of 2016 rose by 4% year-on-year.
The GDP which includes oil for the 3rd quarter of 2016, grew by 4% compared to 3.5% in the same period of 2015.
The Producer Price Inflation (PPI) for the month of November 2016 jumped to 11.9% from 9.7% recorded in October.
The discussion will also be on the challenges the service faces and how the new government can help address them.
