Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has observed that the annual Ghana Movie Awards is a big joke.
The actress in a tweet stated that she have heeded to the advice from her crew not to submit her work for nomination. According to her, awards are “meaningless and pointless”.
It will be recalled that Ms Nelson who produced If Tomorrow Never Comes protested the nomination of Beasts of No Nation on the basis that the piece was a foreign production.
She argued that the budget of a Hollywood movie cannot be compared to Ghanaian movies and so will be unfair for the movie to be nominated.
‘Beasts of No Nation’ however, received fifteen nominations and swept most of the awards for the categories under which it was nominated at the 2015 edition.
