Ghana has been ranked 9th out of 38 countries in the latest Prosperity Report on Africa.
The West African country performed particularly well in security and safety but performed badly in Economy, according to the report by the London-based Legatum Institute.
Ghana’s performance in the Economy was only better than eight other African countries including Djibouti, Sudan, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Burundi, Guinea and Liberia.
However, despite the poor performance in Economy, the oil producing nation performed well in several other categories such as Entrepreneurship & Opportunity (9th), Governance (5th), Education (7th), and Health (5th).
South Africa was ranked as the most prosperous nation in the 2016 Africa Prosperity Report, which uses indicators such as Economy; Entrepreneurship & Opportunity; Governance; Education; Health; Safety & Security; Personal Freedom; and Social Capital.
Botswana placed second in the report followed by Morocco, Namibia, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Rwanda, Ghana and Burkina Faso making up the top 10 nations.
The Central Africa Republic was ranked as the least prosperous nation on the African continent.
