Ghana has gotten its first noodles factory.
The move which was powered by the Blow group, manufacturers of Bel-Aqua, will employ about 500 people.
According to the brands manager at Blow Chem Industry Limited, Emmanuel Quist, the Yum-mie noddle has been positioned to compete with the many others imported into the country.
The aim is to offer cheaper prices, “If you look at all the other brands on the market, they are all imported, so we decided to do a locally manufactured instant noodles product with international quality,” he said.
He added that the product received some positive reviews immediately it hit the market.
The Yum-mie noodle comes in six flavors; chicken, pepper chicken, onion chicken, pepper beef, Jollof, beef and light soup.
The company says it has a long term plan to empower all persons in the noodle food chain to enhance their skills.
Mr. Quist appealed to government to protect local industries by shielding them from undue competition from importers who might sell the products cheap.
“They need to support us to have us protected. We are bringing in made in Ghana, we are bringing in a lot of money not only in infrastructure but electricity, water, employment; it is a good growth for the nation so they have to support us in that way. We need a support from government,” he said.
