Gyan said that Ghana can win 2017 AFCON, but that will only be possible if the players cultivate the right attitude that will earn them the win.
Ghanaian striker and Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan has pointed out the posibility of coming home with the African Cup of Nations trophy in the 2017 tournament. He was however quick to note that the possibility hinges on the interest of the Black Stars to grab the trophy which is the main thing that will drive them to victory.
In an exclusive interview with TV3 on Wednesday, Asamoah Gyan pointed out the need for him and his team mates to show a sincere desire to win the AFCON. According to him, having the needed skills is not enough to bring them victory in the tournament.
Everything is possible in football. We can win the AFCON. I use Cote d’Ivoire as an example. They lost in 2006 and 2012 on penalties but they won it in 2015 against us. We can also win but it will depend on the team. We have the quality but I believe that our attitude on the field can determine whether or not we will go far.
It is very easy to talk about winning the trophy but we need to show the world that we want to really win it. I pray that we will be injury-free because we need all the help we can get from the players on the pitch and those on the bench. Everybody must get involved if we will the trophy, Gyan emphasized.

The Black Stars who have been in Dubai, United Arab Emirates since January 2nd beat Bunyodkor 2-0 in a friendly match on Tuesday. Gyan came off the bench in the 67th minute of the game and scored with his first touch, and Frank Acheampong doubled the goal 15 minutes to the end of the match.
Speaking to Sport360 after the match, Gyan said the victory will help them boost their confidence ahead of the tournament in Gabon.
Ghana finished as runners up at the last edition of the AFCON, and have been drawn in a tough Group D along with Egypt, Uganda and Mali in the January 14 – February 5 tournament.
The country has not won the AFCON for about three decades now. But Gyan is optimistic that they will come home with the continental trophy this time. Ghana will be facing Uganda in their first match in this year’s tournament on the 17th of January.
