Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the decision taken by the Match Review Committee over the suspension of Referee Justice Adu-Poku for the rest of the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League season.
Referee Adu-Poku was charged by the committee for awarding a penalty kick to West African Football Club (WAFA) in the 12th minute of the second half in their match day 6 league match in Sogakope.
A careful view of the video footage according to the committee concluded that Referee Adu-Poku awarded a bed penalty that won the match for WAFA.
According to the Review Panel, the referee’s position on the field of play was such that he could not have seen clearly the infringement he claimed to have seen. The committee found his defence before the review panel unsuccessful and extremely vain not to warrant a suspension.
His suspension which takes immediate effect which was consequently upheld by the Executive Committee of the GFA will act as wake up call for the referees in the Ghana Premier League considering the life ban imposed by the Ghanaian FIFA Referee, Joseph Lamptey.
The Ghana Premier League returns this weekend after a two week break to make way for international competitions.
