The Public Relations Officer of Charter House, organizers of the prestigious music awards, VGMA, has called the bluff of singer Ohemaa Mercy, asking her to do whatever she pleases with her awards.
This follows a fresh threat by management of the gospel artiste to return the awards due to a statement by George Quaye.
Speaking on 3FM 92.7 in an interview with Miriam Osei-Agyemang on the station’s mid-morning show Urban Blend over the week, George Quaye was surprised at such a threat from the multiple award-winning gospel songstress.
According to him, “to every artiste who has won a plaque before, it’s your property and what you choose to do with it is entirely up to you so if anybody wants to return a plaque for whatever reason it is totally their prerogative”.
But, in a rather sharp rebuttal, Isaac Twum Ampofo, lead manager of Team Ohemaa Mercy, said although they initially accepted the apology by the Public Relations Officer, they felt disrespected when he went ahead to insist that indeed bribery indeed occur.
He opined, “the problem is this same person who said he is apologizing, came on radio again and after saying he really wrote that apology letter still insists that that thing is ongoing and that it is true that something like that is happening without mentioning a single name.”
Mr Twum Ampofo added that the VGMA spokesperson’s utterances beg the authenticity of the awards they have won over the years and they would follow through with their threat unless they get a genuine apology.
Ever since news of the bribery allegation broke on the corridors of the VGMA, there have been mixed reactions from key actors in the music industry with some notable gospel artistes pushing for a complete boycott of the 2017 edition of the awards.
Meanwhile, deep-throat sources say the final VGMA nominations list would be released at the end of February, as a precursor to the main event on April 8. This year’s is likely to see an all-live band event.
