The Central regional branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Awutu/Senya West for challenging incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Hanna Tetteh to show her husband to the public.
A press statement dated November 6 which was signed by Mr Kwesi Dawood, Regional Communication Officer of the NDC has subsequently described the conduct of Mr Andah as “retrogressive and primitive” and also indicated that Mr Andah’s comments are “against all single mothers in the Region”.
At a campaign rally held last week , Mr Andah had dared the Foreign Affairs Minister to show her husband to Ghanaians in like manner as he showcased his wife at that mini-rally in Bawjiase.
But the NDC sees it as an “irresponsible comment against single mothers, unmarried women or career women who are in politics to advance the cause of women and children so we are calling on all progressive citizens and gender activists to rise up and ensure that chauvinistic and misogynistic folks like NPP’s George Andah and NPPs Kofi Okyere Agyakum of Awutu/Senya West and Fanteakwa South respectively, are prevented from becoming parliamentarians to enact laws for women”.
The party has also condemned the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo for his “loud silence over these bizarre, unprovoked and flaking attacks on women by his party’s parliamentary candidates such as Ken Ohene Agyapong of Assin Central, Kofi Okyere Agyakum of Fanteakwa South and George Andah of Awutu/Senya West are concerned”.
