The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has threatened to expose the Chairparson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, for disqualifying its flag bearer, Dr Henry Herbert Lartey.
Counsel for the GCPP, Mr Maurice Ampaw, stated that the EC would be sent to court to expose all the errors she had committed but had been overlooked, which would make her credibility questionable and tarnish her image.
He explained at a press conference organised at the party’s headquarters in Accra yesterday.
The EC disqualified the GCPP on illegitimate signatories where one person endorsed for two political parties. Besides, there were no dates on the forms.
Mr Ampaw said the reasons the EC used to disqualify the party’s candidate had no basis in law and lacked sufficient grounds.
Errors
According to Mr Ampaw, the EC itself has committed a lot of errors such as failure to clean ghost names on the register and its failure to make the register available to the various candidates and that when the EC appeared before court on the issue, it pleaded for some time to rectify the anomalies.
He said in filing the nomination forms in the 2012 general election, mistakes were made and the EC asked the affected parties and candidates to effect the necessary corrections and queried why the EC failed to give the disqualified candidates some time to correct their mistakes.
