The Ghana Bar Association has congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his election as the President of Ghana, and all lawyers who have been elected as members of parliament.
The Association said it is proud that Akufo-Addo who is a senior and distinguished member of the association has becomes the third member since the fourth republic to become President of Ghana.
Nana Akufo-Addo polled 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85% to emerge winner in last Wednesday’s elections, which President Mahama came second with 4,713,277 votes, 44.40%.
“The GBA shares in the joy of his achievement and wish him well as he embarks on the arduous task of administering the affairs of our nation. We pray that the Almighty God would guide and protect him during his term as President,” it said in a statement.
The association commended the Electoral Commission and its staff for what it conducting what it described as “free, fair, generally orderly and peaceful” elections on December 7.
It also applauded President John Dramani Mahama and the candidates in the presidential election for “their general show of maturity and responsibility during the 2016 elections”.
“The GBA is gratified by the respect for the rule of law demonstrated by Ghanaians during the 2016 elections and hope we all would continue to be law abiding, strive to promote peace and deepen democracy in the country. We thank the general citizenry for the peaceful manner in which the elections were held,” it added.
