The 2017 Ghana Music Honours was held on Saturday, March 4 at the National Theatre. Expectations were indeed met by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) the organizers of the event, who did a good job pulling off the long anticipated show.
Of course, the big names in the Ghanaian music industry like; VVIP, Sarkodie, MZvee, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale Medikal, Joey B, Joe Mettle and many others were all called by respective presenters, after which they went home winners for the night.
About 20 awards were presented at the 2017 Ghana Music Honours, in various categories. Some of the categories included; Best Band Honour, Best DJ Honour, Afro Pop Artist Honour, Hiplife Artist Honour, Highlife Artist Honour, Gospel Artist Honour, Music Producer Honour, Best Music Video, Most Promising Honour, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Group Honour and People’s Choice Awards. Evergreen Highlife Artist Honour, Evergreen Hiplife Artist Honour, Evergreen Gospel Artist Honour, and President’s Choice Honour.
Hiplife group, VVIP, topped the 2017 edition of Ghana Music Honours with two awards out of four nominations. VVIP won the “Evergreen Hiplife” and “Best Group” honours at the ceremony.
Self acclaimed dance hall king Shatta Wale was not at all left out in the party. Shatta took home the “Best Producer” and “People’s Choice” honours.

Down to the glitz
It was all glitz and glam at the award ceremony. Talk about representing; all the stars were all glammed up by well known designers and artists whose talents were fully made manifest, through the gorgeous looks of their respective clients.

The Ghana Music Honours was set up by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in 2012. According to the body, the platform seeks to “cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to the Ghanaian society; from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals”.
