The former first Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Fred Oware has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bui Power Authority by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.
The Bui Power Authority, the administrative body of the Bui Hydroelectric Project was established by the erstwhile Kufour-administration by an act of the Ghanaian Parliament (BPA Act 740) in 2007 with the mandate to plan, execute and manage the second largest hydroelectric dam in the country by utilising the resources of the Black Volta to primarily produce electricity at base price to spur industrial and agricultural production geared towards impacting the lives of millions of Ghanaians.
Mr. Oware who had earlier served as CEO of the erstwhile Bui Hydro Energy Development Project is expected to channel his experience towards making the Bui Hydroelectric Project an effective and efficient entity especially in the midst of an endless power crisis that has bedevilled the country since 2011.
One key expectation of him is how he will harness the 400 megawatt installed
capacity of the Bui Hydroelectric Project as well as ensuring the development of an irrigation scheme for agricultural development, eco-tourism and fisheries which are additional responsibilities of the Bui Power Project.
