Four Traders Killed in Armed Robbery Attack on the Gushegu-Karaga Road

Four traders have been killed in an armed robbery attack on the Gushegu-Karaga road in the Northern Region.
Six others have sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack that was carried out by four masked men at about 9:30AM Sunday near a village called Shabo in the Karaga District.
The injured have since been taken to hospitals in Gushegu and Karaga for medical attention while the dead have since been deposited at the Gushegu morgue.
Our source say the dead did not die from gunshots. According to the source, the robbers upon stopping the Tata bus with registration number [ER 2188-C] carrying the traders, asked them to lie flat on the side of the road while the robbers searched and took their monies and other valuable items.
Another car, an Albion bus with registration number [AS 9948-F] that was carrying the goods [mainly yams and cereal] of the traders, which was behind the Tata bus and later approached at the scene, was signaled by the robbers to stop.
The driver refused, forcing the robbers to fire warning shots. The Albion driver in an attempt to dodge and flee the scene, ran the bus over the traders who were then lying on the road side, killing the four instantly. There were about 40 traders aboard the Tata bus.
Sunday is a market day in Gushegu and the traders were said to be on their way to the market when the incident occurred.
The Karaga District Police Commander, ASP Emmanuel Botchwey, in confirming the incident to tv3network.com said the Police has retrieved an empty AK 47 shell from the crime scene. He said the traders were travelling from Karaga to Gushegu when robbers stopped them at some point.
He said the robbers fled the scene just after the incident, noting that no arrest has been made yet.
