Four final-year students of Community Health Training School at Tanoso in the Tano North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region met their untimely death at dawn on Sunday when the vehicle they were travelling in reportedly crashed into a tree.
According to the police, the driver of the Nissan Primera, registered BA 486 13, was heading towards Tanoso from Sunyani when the incident occurred at Abesim, near Sunyani.
The four students are Florence Osei Tutu, 23; Dora Naza, 24; Gifty Yeboah, 24 and Vivian Coffie.
The vehicle, according to the polic, was being driven by one Bernard Oppong Gyamfi, who also sustained serious injuries but is now receiving treatment at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital.
The bodies have been deposited at the same hospital for autopsy.
Shedding more light on the accident to DAILY GUIDE, BA Regional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Daniel Oppong Asirifi, said it occurred at about 10 minutes after 12 midnight on Sunday near Glamossay Junction at Abesim.
He said the vehicle was travelling from the Sunyani direction towards Kumasi but could not tell exactly where they were coming from.
The vehicle on which they were travelling somersaulted
According to him, there were five occupants in the car – four ladies and a gentleman. Three of the females died instantly whilst one died later at the hospital.
Superintendent Oppong Asirifi said preliminary investigations so far confirmed that the ladies were all students of Tanoso Community Health Training School and the driver (Bernard) is a production manager of Makainzi Sports Wear Company Limited in Sunyani.
Though rumours have it that the students participated in a musical programme at the Sunyani Coronation Park organized by the organizers of Ghana Music Awards and were returning from the programme to school, Superintendent Asirifi could not confirm it.
He said the driver who could have given some information as to where they were coming from was in critical condition and so would not be able to give any evidence.
He also could not tell whether the driver was drunk whilst driving as some social media platforms seem to suggest.
Meanwhile, the mangled vehicle has been towed to the Sunyani Municipal Police Station for further examination.
