The Immediate past District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sunyani Municipal District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region, Akwasi Oppong Ababio, has died.
Mr. Ababio died at the Sunyani Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at about 9:00pm, aged of 62.
According to reports, Mr. Ababio was in his private residence in the evening when he suddenly started complaining of a stomach upset, and immediately fell on the ground and was rushed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital before his death.
The late Mr. Ababio contested the Sunyani East Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2006 general elections, but lost to the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh.
Until his appointment as MCE for the Sunyani Municipal District Assembly from 2009-2016, he was the former deputy regional secretary of the NDC.
Mr. Ababio held a Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resource and Strategic Management from the Graduate Institute. He was an Agriculturalist and hails from Abesim in the Sunyani East Constituency.
His body has since been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
