African football legend George Oppong Weah on Tuesday, February 14 paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House.
A former Presidential Candidate, Mr Weah was at the presidency to congratulate President Akufo-Addo and discuss issues of mutual interest.
Weah is currently the Senator for the Montserrado County in Liberia.
He praised President Akufo-Addo for his resilience in winning the 2016 elections in Ghana after two failed attempts, describing it “as a lesson for all of us”.
“If you don’t succeed at your first attempt, try again,” he observed.
He implored President Akufo-Addo to make his tenure one to boost bilateral relation between Ghana and Liberia, calling on Accra to help ensure credible polls come October 10 when Liberia elects a new president.
Mr Oppong Weah, popularly known as King George in his playing days, won the 1995 FIFA Player of the Year and won the African Player of the Year three times, among several other honours.
He becomes the second high-profile African footballer to visit President Akufo-Addo after Ivorian Didier Drogba visited last week.
