Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has promised getting Passport Application Centers in the remaining four regions of Ghana “within two years”.
The country has Passport Application Centers in six regions including Western and Volta regions.
At her vetting on Monday, January 23, Ms Botchway said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already identified properties in the four remainder regions – Eastern, Upper West, Upper East and Central regions – for conversion into Passport Application Centers.
“What is left is for some money to be made available for renovation and set up.”
She promised to deliver this by the end of 2019.
“It won’t take us too long,” she observed.
Ms Botchway, who was a Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister in the John Kufuor regime, also promised that the days of delays in passport acquisition are over.
She said an online application system will be introduced to solve that problem.
She attributed the delays in mistakes on documents by applicants, expressing hope that the online system will address that.
