Dredge Masters Limited, a Ghanaian-owned leading provider of dredging services, has said it has completed the first phase of desilting the Odaw River.
This task according to the company, included clearing the bottlenecks; the heavily silted areas in the water body to improve flow and increase the water carrying capacity of the drains to prevent further flooding.
On a tour of the buffer zone of the Odaw River, the operations Manager for Dredge Masters, Sena Adiepena said that despite attempts to get the work done and allow free flow of water, slum dwellers along the Odaw River are constantly throwing garbage into the river making it difficult for them to complete the exercise.
He called on the local government to immediately eject the residents to ensure a smoother and more efficient exercise.
Dredge Masters also revealed desilting of the Korle Lagoon is also 30 percent complete.
