The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has lauded the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) for adhering to fire safety practices to protect life and property at the company.
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) of the GNFS, Mr William Yawson, said at the end of a fire safety audit at the GCGL last Friday that the company had obeyed the rules and regulations of the GNFS since the last time its premises were inspected.
Mr Yawson led a team of fire personnel to inspect the company’s warehouse, production areas and some offices within the premises in Accra.
The team of five also inspected evacuation procedures, electrical installations, housekeeping, emergency exits, fuel loading points and ventilation system across the company.
It also examined fire extinguishers, hose reels and hydrants on the company’s premises.
Fire safety facilities
Mr Yawson underscored the need for companies and institutions to locate fire safety equipment at visible places within the premises, saying they served as a stop-gap measure in the event of a fire outbreak before the arrival of fire personnel.
“The firefighters will help to reduce fire outbreak in the country but the greatest precautions will come from the individual,” he said.
He gave an assurance that the GNFS would continue to provide the public with valuation education to protect life and property.
Way forward
For her part, the Manager of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) of GCGL, Mrs Peace Gadogbe, said the company had been organising fire safety education for staff to ensure good practices.
She added that the company would implement recommendations by the GNFS audit team to guarantee a fire-free and safe environment at the workplace.
