Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Standard-bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has vowed to wage relentless war on corruption, to save more money to bring progress to the people.
He said if given the mandate to lead the country, his government would go the extra mile to ensure that there would be no incentive for anybody to engage in corrupt practices.
He would provide strong political leadership to tackle the wastage in system and make sure that there was transparency and efficiency in the management of the nation’s resources.
Dr. Ndoum was delivering a paper on the topic “The reality and myth of poverty reduction” at public lecture organized by the Spiritan University College in Ejisu.
He repeated the promise to separate the Attorney-General’s Office from the Justice Ministry to help to properly deal with the evil of corruption.
Transparency International’s corruption perception index for 2015, ranked Ghana as the seventh country in Africa with high level of corruption.
Dr. Nduom indicated that poverty reduction strategies adopted over the years to lift many out of poverty – transform the lives of the people, had struggled because dishonest and unethical conduct of public officials for private gain.
“Funds and resources meant for specific purposes or projects, are often diverted for other things” and he said, this was something that was not going to happen under the watch of the PPP’s government.
He also spoke of massive investment in education to equip and empower the people with requisite skills to become economically productive.
That, he said, was the way forward for wealth creation to make things better for everybody.
His government, again would spearhead the amendment of the constitution to allow for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) by the people.
The present system where they were nominated by the President for approval by the assemblies needed to change, he added.
Touching on energy, he promised the use of multi-sectoral approach to tackle the erratic power supply – take advantage of the abundant wind, solar and hydro resources at the nation’s disposal.
