Parents at Breman Nwomaso in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District of the Central Region are living in fear over the collapse of the only Kindergarten (KG) and Primary school block in the area.
The parents who have still not recovered from the shock and the sad incident which occurred at Assin Jamra few weeks ago, did not understand why the authorities should sit down unconcerned without doing anything about the situation.
According to them, the school block was very old and weak which needed renovation but nothing was done to it.
They indicated that, the weak nature of the school building has now become a threat to the school pupils.
But during an inspection with the media by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at AOB District, Mr Richard Tsibu explained that, contrary to speculation that, the building collapsed during school hours, they rather woke up to find the school in that state after a heavy downpour.
“This happened when the school had closed so nobody was injured what so ever”, he stated.
He disclosed that the district assembly has even put up a new classroom block for the school but due to congestion some of the students were brought into the old block to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
“The KG has been streamlined into A and B so this block has been assigned to them to ease congestion”, he further explained.
He added that government was very keen on preventing the recurrence of the “Jamra incident” and has therefore dispatched a team to go round deprived communities to assist those who are in need.
“My outfit has compiled a comprehensive report on schools in deplorable state in the rural areas and presented pictures as well to the GES regional office in Cape Coast for urgent attention”, he
“Even if we have to put up temporal structures such as huts for the students in the mean time we will because we believe that is a bit safer since they cannot forego their studies while we wait for a new block to be built for them,” he said.
