The Electoral Commission has said persons who could not cast their ballot in this year’s special voting exercise can do so on 7th December general elections.
The group of persons in this category include those who submitted wrong voter details for the early voting exercise to the Commission hence did not have their names on the special voters’ register list.
A statement released by the EC via its Facebook page on Sunday evening said persons who did not transfer their vote to the constituency in which they wanted to vote will still have their names on the original list of voters in their respective constituencies and will be given the chance to vote on December 7.
The statement follows pockets of complaints from various parts of the country that some security personnel could still not find their names in the special voters’ register even though another day [Sunday, September 4] was set to allow such ‘disgruntled’ special voters, cast their ballots after the exercise on Thursday [December 1].
Citi News reports indicate that more special voters were turned away from various polling stations because their names were not in the list.
Some of the officers included personnel in senior ranks within Ghana’s security agencies.
Meanwhile, the Commission has called on security agencies to deploy affected persons to polling stations close to where they originally registered to allow them to vote early before they start your work at the various polling stations.
Meanwhile, the Police administration has said that that no officer will be disenfranchised in this year’s electoral process.
The Director of the Police Public Affairs, Superintendant Cephas Arthur told Citi News, “the administration will ensure all personnel are able to exercise their franchise”.
He said the Inspector General of Police has instructed all Regional, Divisional and District Commands to devise a plan to ensure all personnel who were unable to vote during the special voting exercise do so on election day.
