The Gyambra school building collapse which occurred in the Central Region left 6 kids dead and many others injured.
A school building at Breman Gyambra in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region collapsed on the morning of Tuesday, January 31st, leaving six Kindergarten pupils dead and several others with varying degrees of injuries.. The accident occurred while the pupils were taking lessons inside the classroom block.
Reports reveal that four out of the six kids died on the spot while the other two died while they were being conveyed to the Breman Asikuma Government Hospital for treatments. The rest are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
According to an eyewitness, the collapsed building has cracks here and there which obviously led to its eventual collapse. It was however, not yet ascertained if the school authorities were aware of the damages prior to the ugly incident.
Policemen from the Asikuma Odoben-Abrakwa District Command had reportedly rushed to the scene to help rescue the victims and also control the crowd that converged at the accident scene.
Investigations have also been commenced by the District Police to find out the exact cause of the Gyambra school building collapse. The District Police Commander, Superintendent Emmanuel Odonkor who spoke to Citi News said that observations reveal that the collapsed building has been grossly affected by erosion.
According to statements made by the Breman Asikuma District Director of the Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ) Commission, families who were affected by the incident may receive compensation from the government. Also speaking to Citi News after the collapse, the CHRAJ District Director, Samuel Donkor said has told the head teacher of the school to direct parents of the victims to the commission. This according to him, is to assist them to get some government compensation.
