Former Ghana coach Sam Arday has passed away.
Sam Arday, who coached the Black Stars, Black Satellites, Black Starlets and the Black Meteors, is reported to have died on Sunday, February 12 after a short illness.
Popularly known as the ‘Multi System Man’, Sam Arday led Ghana to win the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Ecuador with the likes of Stephen Appiah, Awudu Issaka and Emmanuel Bentil.
He had earlier led Ghana’s men’s Olympic team, the Black Meteors, to win Bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the first medal for an African nation at that level.
Sam Arday was instrumental in Ghana’s maiden qualification to the FIFA World Cup in Germany, serving as one of the scout coaches for Ratomir Dujkovic.
He coached local clubs Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Okwahu United and more recently Fete Feyenoord now known as WAFA.
Tributes poured in from former national football players as well as the president, Nana Akufo-Addo, who played soccer while a student at the university.
They took to Twitter to pay tributes to the former coaching hero.
