Emulate Forebears Who Have Made It In Society – Samira Urges Young Women

Second lady of the Republic of Ghana, Samira Bawumia has urged young women to take advantage of the experiences of successful persons in society and work towards making a difference.

Speaking at the launch of the second edition of “The Story of our lives project”; a mentorship project for young ladies in Ghana, Mrs. Bawumia stressed on the importance of dwelling on the success stories of women making a huge impact in their various capacities in society to build one own’s success story.

According to her, it is through learning that young women can look past the hurdles thrown in their path on the journey to great accomplishment.

“All of us needs someone to inspire us to do more than we already know, we will have to learn how to overcome life’s challenges but there is no surer way out of it than making use of the learning experiences of those who have come ahead of us on the path…, the path we choose must emulate our forebears who have successfully defined their roles in society”, she said.

She challenged young women to take active lessons of things happening around them, defy the challenges and hurdles they may face and ultimately make choices that will lead them to success.

“Along the way, on the various paths that lead ultimately to our calling, there will be hurdles that we need to overcome, but we must press on, ….we must not be sightseers alone as our president says, we shouldn’t be spectators, we should be citizens, we must take active lessons from what we see happening all around us and we might strive to achieve even more.

Samira Bawumia was the special Guest of Honor at the second edition of “The story of our lives” conference organized by MENFYD Foundation, a non-profit organization which seeks to empower young women nationwide.

This year’s event dubbed “Same story, different era” brought together young ladies from some tertiary institutions in the country to learn from mentors as well as share their life experiences with each other. Lady Rosa Whitaker Duncan-Williams, wife of Renowned Archbishop Duncan Williams was also present to grace the occasion and motivate the young ladies in attendance.
