Bechem United failed to glitter against Elmina Sharks at their favourite Nana Gyeabour stadium after the latter held on to a 0-0 stalemate.
The game was supposed to serve as an opportunity for Elmina Sharks to consolidate their stupendous victory over Berekum Chelsea while Bechem United needed the win to improve on their four match winning streaks since returning from their disappointing exploits in CAF Confederations cup competition.
In other matches, Tema Youth played their best game of the season to pick up all three points against Hearts of Oak at the Tema Park.
The Phobians, fresh from a massive victory against arch rivals Great Olympics lined-up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Cosmos Dauda leading the line and being supported by Alex Kuoami.
It took only 17 minutes for the home side to take the lead against a Phobian side who were yet to settle into their game. If the goal was a wakeup call, then Hearts responded very well with Thomas Abbey, Cosmos Dauda and Inusah Musah all going close to an equalizer.
But that did not deter the home side who worked super hard to end the first half ahead.
Hearts of Oak skipper Thomas Abbey stood up to rescue a point for the Phobians with just six minutes in the second half much to the delight of Scottish coach Frank Nuttal after latching onto a loose ball.
Bu there was no denying for Tema Youth on the 75th minute to amass the maximum points of the day after a double deflection took the ball past Ben Mensah to allow Yusif Ibrahim finish round off the game 2-1.
Berekum Chelsea continued their impressive home form by accounting for debutants Bolga All Stars 1-0 at the Golden City Park. Left-back Justice Anane swung in a cross from the left and Brimah Mohammed made no mistake to head in after 31 minutes.
All Stars under interim coach Mallam Nuhu put up an imposing defensive performance to frustrate the hosts. Steve Pollack’s charges found it difficult to breakdown the opposition and could not replicate their dominate play. Chelsea will improve to fifth place on the table with 11 points while Bolga All Stars remain second-bottom.
AshantiGold SC returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League when they defeated Liberty Professionals 1-0 at the Obuasi Len-Clay Stadium.
The game started on a cagey note as both sides cancelled each other out, but the deadlock was broken when midfielder Amos Addai played a beautiful curling shot past goalkeeper Eric Andoh in the 14thminute to give home side advantage.
Liberty came back strongly into the game in the second stanza with some nice intricate passing play but could not find the equalizer.
AshantiGold threatened the goal area of the scientific soccer lads on countless occasion in the closing stages but failed to add to their advantage as they held on to record a win three games.
League leaders, Aduana Stars were also held to 0-0 score line at the Nana Yaw Nana Agyemang Badu Park by Medeama SC.
The ‘Ogya’ lads could have taken the lead in the early stages of the match but a great art of goalkeeping by Eric Antwi prevented striker Derrick Sasraku from registering his name on the score sheet.
Both sides had half chances in the second half but could not make it count as the match ended in a draw. The stalemate keeps Aduana afloat of the league log with seventeen points from seven matches.
