Elmina Sharks will play as guests to Bolga All Stars at the Utrecht Park this afternoon in a must-win game in Week 10 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
According to the technical handlers of the club, Elmina Sharks is aiming to challenge for top 4 and this game is as crucial as any other game if the team’s ambitions are to be fulfilled.
The game comes in the wake of a painful home draw against Liberty Professionals last Saturday in a result that prevented Sharks from breaking into the top 4 as other teams around them failed to win.
Sharks have gone four games without defeat since their last loss of 1-0 to Kotoko. And they have gone on to pick three wins and a draw in the process rising to the 6th position on the league log.
Bolga All Stars on the other hand seem to be peaking at the right time as the bottom side has chalked some impressive results and performances from the last two games.
After the team’s initial blip, they seem to have found their feet in the GPL.
As their last loss was three games ago when they were beaten by Chelsea in Berekum, the team followed it up with an impressive 2-1 home win over Bechem Utd.
Again, the team in last Sunday’s game drew away to one of Ghana’s football giants, Ashanti Gold, in Obuasi. This obviously shows a team on the ascendency from their initial slump.
But Sharks Assistant Coach, Nana Sinason, says his side has studied the Bolga All Stars team and their setup too well to fall to their tactics in this afternoon’s game.
Nana Sinason says they will approach the game just as they do in any other game.
“Our approach to the Bolga All Stars game will be similar to what we have done against any other side. It is just one of the games and we are ready to play this afternoon.’’
“My head coach and myself were in Obuasi to scout Bolga All Stars play AshGold and we have gained so much insight into how they operate. So we will just play to our strengths and make sure we earn our first away win.”
Sharks occupy the 6th position with 13 points after 9 games having recorded 3 wins 4 draws and 2 loses. Bolga All Stars on the other hand sit bottom of the pile after managing a win and two draws while losing 6 games. The team were docked three points and three goals after the FA’s disciplinary committee upheld Olympics protest against the Bolga side.
Sharks have been handed a major boost following the return to match fitness of midfield dynamo Edward Ebo Mends who is yet to kick a ball in the 9 week old Ghana premier league `
