The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the 2016 elections at the first round.
This is a prediction from the party’s Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho. He mentioned this in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
“It’ll be first round win.”
He said that even though they are certain of a ‘one touch’ victory they are not leaving anything to chance. “We are taking no region for granted.”
He also disputed claims by the New Patriotic Party that they have gained grounds in the Volta Region which is seen as the stronghold of the NDC. He said the NPP will not realise the target it has set in the Volta region in the December polls.
“If they wake up now and excite themselves we are moving from zero seat to five seats and they are moving from 12perecent to 50pecernt…you do the mathematics and tell yourself whether realistically, they can move from 12percent to 50percent in the Volta region,” he stated.
“The [party] is committed to ensure that both presidential and parliamentary polls are won,” he added.
He said the party is on the last lapse of its campaign as the election day draws nearer.
Meanwhile, a research from the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana has indicated that the NPP would take the lead over the governing NDC if the upcoming general elections were to be held now.
According to a team of researchers from the department led by a senior lecturer, Dr Isaac Owusu-Mensah, the opposition party would record 49.9%.
The team said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would also record a rate of 39.9%.
