The Public Relations Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Adjei Larbi has warned certified electricians in the country to concentrate on their work with electrical installations and stop acting as agents of ECG.
Mr. Larbi explained that these contractors take huge sums of money from landlords and other people with the pretext of giving them power which is not their job. He hinted that the police is on the lookout and will arrest such persons.
“Any electrician who does not concentrate on his/her work but pose as ECG agents who go about charging whopping sums of money will be arrested by the police,’ he explained.
The PR manager made this statement when the Energy Commission and the ECG, awarded certificates to 771 electricians across the country who passed examinations organised by the commission in collaboration with ECG.
Also speaking at the press conference, the lead Officer of the Wiring Programme at the ECG, Solomon Sarpong explained that about 75% of fire outbreaks in the country are caused by improper electrical wiring by quack electricians in the country and in order to solve or reduce this menace, the commission is committed to continuing with the exams to get qualified electricians in the country.
He said that electrical wiring inspectors will inspect wiring before ECG connects electricity to any building.
Mr. Sarpong reiterated that any certified electrician who does not go according to the rules and laws will be punished accordingly as the commission will be monitoring their work.
