The Electricity Company of Ghana (EC) has ruled out a return of the erratic power supply, popularly known as ‘dumsor’, which plagued the country for almost four years under the outgoing National Democratic Congress administration.
According to the power distributor, Ghana now has enough generation capacity to serve consumers.
The Public Relations Officer of ECG, Mr. William Boateng, told the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview that “We have enough generation if my memory serves me right, I know that our demand is in the range of 2,000 MGW, we have an installed capacity of 3,600, so we have enough generation, so we should be optimistic going forward that the country has enough generation and I am sure will be able to give you stable, reliable and safe power supply.
“Yes, we know that demand is going up but we know we have enough generation so no fears. What we have to do as a distribution company is for us to work very hard, double our efforts and ensure that we strengthen our distribution network, make sure that lines are very robust and very strong so that we don’t have any distribution challenges. I know we have very stable generation coming to ECG for us to distribute so if you go through any challenge in your area then it is a distribution challenge.”
Mr Boateng said this on the sidelines of a media interaction and dinner organised by the Eastern Regional branch of ECG on Wednesday.
He said no part of the country should experience power outage, except for technical hitches on transmission lines.
He said due to this, ECG is working around the clock to ensure that power supply to consumers is not interrupted as a result of transmission challenges.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Manager of ECG, Engineer Michael Baah, has said activities of chainsaw operators and copper theft were some of the challenges that affected the company’s revenue generation in 2015.
He, however, said the company was installing more equipment in the system to ensure smooth power supply and also ensure good customer care through frequent media engagements.
