The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a man who assaulted two workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for disconnecting electricity supply to his house.
Samuel Kodjo Wormenor, 23, a laboratory technologist was charged for assaulting a public officer and causing damage.
Wormenor, who was granted bail by the police at the Kpong Police station, failed to report at the court, hence the bench warrant for his arrest
The prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, told the court that the complainants, Osei Gyapong and Prosper Oyortey are ECG officers from the Krobo District office at Somanya while the accused person, Samuel Kodjo Wormenor, is a laboratory technologist resident at Ahudzo, a suburb of Kpong.
He said about a month ago, the Krobo District ECG announced to the general public that all customers who owed the company should pay up or face disconnection.
Inspector Yeboah said on August 29, 2016 at about 11:21 a.m, a team of ECG officers, including the two complainants, embarked on a disconnection exercise at Kpong.
He said when the team got to the accused person’s house, they disconnected him for failing to pay his bills.
ASP Yeboah said just as the complainants were about to leave Wormenor’s premises , he suddenly appeared and stopped the ECG officers from leaving the house unless they reconnected the power for him. The accused then held the collar of their shirts at their necks, slapped them and started pulling them back to his house.
He said the other ECG workers who were in the area heard of the incident and quickly rushed to the scene to rescue their colleagues. He said in the process, the accused tore the uniforms of the complainants.
The complainants subsequently reported the case to the police and Wormenor was arrested and in his cautioned statements he admitted to the offence. He was, however, granted bail and asked to report in court but he failed to appear.
