The Volta Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has held its maiden public forum with a call for productive use of electricity to conserve energy.
Mr Joseph Mensah Forson, the Regional Director of the Company, advised customers to use appliances made with thermostats and ensure that their earth cables were properly installed to reduce power consumption.
He also cautioned against leaving heat-producing appliances such as irons and heaters on for long periods as they consumed more power.
Mr Forson, responding to questions on the sale of prepaid meters, said customers paid for the installation and not the meter itself, and advised the public against contracting third party persons who charged exorbitant fees for those services.
“Let us walk through the right corridors and desist from falling prey to fraudsters,” he said.
Some customers expressed concern about high tariffs and frequent power outages, which they said, were affecting their businesses.
Mr. Philip Agbezudor, Volta Regional Director, Public Utility Regulatory Commission, said feasibility studies had been conducted to provide Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) with solar panels.
