The Electoral Commission’s head of Communication, Eric Dzakpasu, has hinted the list of qualified candidates running for the Flagstaff House will be out latest by Wednesday, November 9, 2016.
“We should come out with the list of cleared candidates on November 9,” he told The Ghana Report on Viasat 1.
The Supreme Court on Monday, 7 November dismissed the EC’s suit challenging a High Court ruling asking it to allow the presidential nominee of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom to fix the errors contained on his nomination form.
According to the ruling delivered by a seven-member panel, the election management body must extend the nomination period to November 8 [Today] and allow the candidates to correct their mistakes in order to contest the polls.
The court also ordered the discontinuation of the various court cases regarding the disqualification of other presidential aspirants.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, the commission sent letters to the 13 disqualified candidates, inviting them over to come fix the challenges on their forms.
“If after giving the candidates a hearing, more discrepancies are noted, we’ll point them out,” Dzakpasu told Bernard Avle, host of The Ghana Report, adding that “the parties have had the forms for about two weeks, the time they’ve been given is enough.”
The commission, he added after announcing the candidates eligible to contest the presidential elections on Wednesday, November 9, will conduct the presidential balloting the next day – Thursday 10 November.
