The Electoral Commission has called on the various Presidential and Parliamentary candidates contesting in the 2016 elections to submit their filing fees by 12:00 noon on Monday October 10, 2016.
The move follows the dismissal of the PPP’s suit against the EC’s collection of the fees by the High court on Friday.
The PPP argued that collecting the fees was in violation of a pending suit challenging the basis of the 500% hike in the filing fee by the election management body.
But the court dismissed the suit and deffered their reasons for next week.
Head of Communications at the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu who disclosed this in an interview said Presidential nominees are to submit their draft to the Returning Officer at the Head Office of the Commission.
Parliamentary nominees he added are to submit their draft to the Returning Officers at the District Offices of the Electoral Commission where their Constituencies are situated.
According to him, political parties may alternatively pay for their parliamentary nominees at the Head Office of the Commission; but the banker’s draft for such nominees must be accompanied by a list of the party’s candidates on the party’s letterhead and properly signed by authorized party executives.
