The Electoral Commission has shut its Suhum District office following an attack by some thugs on Thursday.
The attackers ransacked the office and took a printer away. The printer was reportedly sent to the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive.
They reportedly threatened to harm the EC officials if the names of some persons living outside the constituency were not transferred.
The EC officials told journalists that there have been continuous attacks on them and that they were afraid for their lives and cannot work without police protection.
“Yesterday they came to our office to carry our printer away and ransacked the office, they threatened to kill us and said they will remove our intestines,” one of the EC officials said.
Asked whether the attackers could be identified, the EC officials said they know them and that they were people from the Suhum township and that their leader was called Oduro. They named one other person as Musah.
They said they hope to start work from Monday with police protection.
