The Electoral Commission has rejected a proposal from the Judicial Service to mediate with the aggrieved political parties who have been disqualified.
Many of the disqualified parties have sued the EC, demanding that they should be allowed to correct their anomalies and contest.
The EC has also gone to the Supreme Court to challenge an order for the reinstatement of PPP’s Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum.
But the President of JUSAG, Alex Nartey said the EC must act as a referee and not behave in a way that would warrant disputes.
“The EC is supposed to be a referee, it doesn’t have to do anything that will warrant disputes and the issues are mediatable disputes and all the disqualification issues are amendable to ADR you have just 30days and the EC is going on appeal, it’s not the best”.
However, a Deputy Public Relations Officer for the EC Yusif Ayuba has disagreed with the claims of the Judicial Service President.
“The EC doesn’t work in a vacuum and the law does not allow the EC to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism to address this issue and we need to respect the laws.”
